Dear Parent,
Please read all of this information carefully and closely as there is a lot happening the next few months at Burke and important information for all to be aware of. I wanted to give you all the latest information so you can put on your calendars and share the information with others. Please watch for special dates and times.
FEBRUARY EVENTS AND DATES
- Feb 9th – Reminder Parent Teacher conferences will be taking place 3:30 -5:30 pm – at this time you will receive your child’s report cards. Please stop by the Parent Club Table as we will have handouts for upcoming events as well as tickets for our upcoming tuition raffle.
- Feb 10th – There are a group of student, parents and faculty that will be participating in wonderful charity work in the Dominican Republic over spring break. The group will be hosting a dress down day for all students. The cost if $5 per student money will be collected in homeroom and the money raised will go towards buying medical supplies for those in need in the Dominican.
- Feb 6-17 – Social Awareness will be conducting a youth hunger food drive – details to follow – the food will be collected in all homeroom
- Feb 13th – SENIORS – All college mid year grade request forms are due with addressed college envelopes to Mr. Dolan in Guidance. Seniors mid year grades will not be sent out to colleges until forms and envelopes are submitted.
- Feb 15 – If you know of any 8th grade student interested in attending Burke next year we will be administering our entrance exam at 12 noon on the 15th – please pass this information on to any prospective incoming freshman. If they are not scheduled to take the test, please have them call Mrs. Rita Enders and she will get them registered.
- Student Government and Fashion Club will be selling flowers and chocolate lollipops for Valentines Day – orders can be placed next week during school
- NHS Tutoring is still available upon request. If you child needs tutoring our National Honor Society students tutor for free – please see Mrs. Austin.
- Feb 18 & 19 – Burke will be hosting a CYO tournament at the school – we are in need of concession stand help if you are available for a few hours please let me know.
- Feb 25 & 26 – Burke will be hosting the OCPSL Varsity Boys and Girls playoff games - this is a very busy weekend and an opportunity for us to make a lot of money for the school. We will be in need of donated homemade food items and help to work the concession stand and kitchen. If you are available to work or make food, please let me know.
- Tuition Raffle – we will be conducting our tuition raffle again this year – please make sure you stop by the parent club table to pick up your ticket and information on Feb 9th. If you are unable to attend Parent /Teacher Conference we will be sending out the tuition raffle information via email and home with your child.
MARCH EVENTS AND DATES
- Mar 5-9 – Dominican Republic Drive – they will be collecting medical supplies and beany babies for their trip. I have attached the list of items that are needed. If you can have your child bring in these supplies and deliver to Mrs. Clarke in Guidance we will be helping many families in the Dominican.
- Mar 7th – Freshman Registration at Burke – 3-5 pm
APRIL UPCOMING EVENTS – additional information will be sent
- April 27- 30 - We will be conducting our clothing, shoe & household item drive in April – please start collecting and saving items now if you are doing winter or spring cleaning – I will be sending out additional details in the next week or so.
- April 16-25 – we will be conducting a toiletry drive for the soldiers – details to follow
- April 29 – Spring Open House – we will be conducting a condensed version of our fall open house from 12-2 pm for any 8th grade student that was unable to attend our fall session or if they would like to take another look to confirm their decision. More information will be communicated in the near future.
SPECIAL NOTICES
- I am happy to report that we collected over 200 hats, gloves, scarves and helped 112 families this winter for our drive. Thank you to all that participated
- May 11 – Fashion Show/Ladies Night is back – if there are any parents or friends that would like to participate with vendor tables, clothing lines, modeling etc. please let me know. We will be sending out information and forms shortly on the fashion show but I wanted to give you time to think about participating or getting others involved. It was a huge success last year and we will would love to have more involvement from vendors, parents etc.
- We will be painting our school sign and placing a temporary burke catholic sign up until we get the sign from Pepsi – weather permitting should happen by next week.
- We are purchasing for the parking lot banners with our school seal, athletic logo (BC Eagles), sport championship information etc. Many of you see the banners on the light posts at Middletown High School and some other public schools. We feel for the look and spirit of the school it is important for us to have them as well. They will be placed on the light posts in the parking lot. I have placed the order and are waiting for the final production pieces. Please take a look in the next month or so and let me know what you think.
- SENIORS – please submit all acceptance letters to Mr. Dolan as soon as you receive them in order to be included in the graduation program.
